Manuscript Consultations

As a writer, I understand how hard it is to see your own work clearly and how valuable a second set of eyes can be. If you’ve spent a good amount of time on your manuscript and feel like you need an outside perspective to help get it to the finish line, get in touch! I’d love to help you achieve your vision for your book.

How it Works

  • You send in a 50 page writing sample and short descriptive paragraph of your book. Tell me what it’s about and why you’d like a manuscript consultation. This isn’t an application! I just know what I’m good at and want to make sure I’m the right person for you.

  • I take a look and see if we’re a fit. (See: What I’m Best At below.)

  • We schedule a quick, 30 minute chat about your goals and vision for the book. Here we discuss any issues you’re having so I can consider them in the read.

  • You submit your complete manuscript to me.

  • I will read it twice and provide you with three pages of notes that will help your book become what you’d like it to be.

  • If desired, we speak on zoom for one hour to answer any questions and help plot a way forward.

My Experience

  • Two of my novels have been traditionally published and well-received, with great reviews by Publishers Marketplace, The New York Times, and readers.

  • As a writing instructor and mentor, I’ve taught at: University of Saskatchewan, Vancouver Island University, Vancouver Film School, InFocus Fim School, and Places Des Artes.

  • In 2023- 2024, I was Writer in Residence at the Saskatoon Public Library as well as the Saskatchewan Writers’ Guild. There I worked one-on-one with writers as a mentor.

  • During the pandemic lockdowns I started working as a story analyst for Industry Arts, the foremost script coverage company in Hollywood. There, I read and analyzed more than a hundred scripts and ranked in the top 25% of their staff.

  • I’m a professional story editor for TV/Film and have worked on over 125 episodes of television with experience ranging from nature documentaries to comedies to kid’s shows.

  • I hold both an MFA and BFA in Creative Writing from The University of British Columbia where I studied fiction and screenwriting.

What I’m Best At

  • I’m known for crafting strong character arcs and for elevated prose that doesn’t sacrifice momentum. I love story!

  • I regularly read contemporary fiction and feel I have a good handle of upmarket mysteries and thrillers, women’s fiction, and general commercial fiction. I don’t know much about sci-fi or fantasy but I’m happy to take a look at a sample to see if I can help.

  • I do not provide proofreads or copyedits. I am bad at them.

    Pricing

  • For this full manuscript critique, I currently charge $1500 plus 5% GST.

  • If you’d like a simplified version of this critique, I can give you a read + one page of feedback for $500 plus 5% GST. In this sceneario, I will only read your novel once and there will be no zoom conversations.
